The Commemorative Tree Program


The type of tree/shrub selected will be from a list of Oklahoma hardy species that include Ash, Redbud, Crepe Myrtle, Austrian Pine, Loblolly Pine, Chinese Pistache, Shumard Oak, Water Oak, Bald Cypress, American Holly. Kentucky Coffee Tree, Shatung Maple.

Trees ordered between January 1 and June 30 will be planted in the fall and trees ordered between July 1 and December 31 will be planted in the spring.

The trees will have a three year guarantee. The city’s parks department will plant, maintain and replace, if necessary, during that period.

Each commemorative planting will have signage noting the date, plant species and the name of the honoree. Upon planting, the parks department will provide a certificate and a map showing the location of the planting.

A commemorative tree donation is $225. Additional plants ordered at the same time are $200 each. Checks are payable to The City of Broken Arrow, designated for Commemorative Tree Planting. Payment must accompany the order.

Arvest Bank and the Walton Family Foundation donated a truckload of redbuds and whitebuds to the Broken Arrow Beautification Committee to be planted this spring with another planting this fall. The donation was $7,500 and Sanders Nursery supplied the trees. 50 Redbuds will be planted now in groves in Veterans, Jackson, Central and Arrowhead parks. Pictured are Betsy Gerber, operation manager of Arvest Bank with Chris Ohler, horticulturalist for the City of Broken Arrow. All the trees were about ten feet tall.
